Foe`s father slams action (02.07.2004)
Marc Vivien Foe`s father Martini upset with the player`s widow
Martin Foe, father of the late Marc-Vivien, has slammed the decision of the player`s widow to sue the French Football Federation (FFF) over the midfielder`s death.
Marc-Vivien Foe collapsed and died during the Confederations Cup semi-final match between Cameroon and Colombia on 26 June, 2003.
The midfielder`s widow, Marie-Louise, and her lawyers now want to sue the FFF for failing to provide adequate medical attention for the deceased footballer.
Martin Foe says that he was not consulted before this latest decision to sue the FFF was taken on behalf of the family.
"I`m not in agreement with a court case," Martin Foe said.
"As head of the family I was supposed to be
consulted and I don`t think legal action is appropriate."
"This means we also have to take action against Fifa, the organisers of the competition, and the Cameroon football federation, for whom he (Foe) played."
"I think that we should even get clearance from the Cameroon government before suing whoever over the death of my son."
Marie-Louise, who is resident in the British city of Manchester, told BBC Sport in Yaounde that only her lawyers could address the matter.
These latest comments from Martin Foe highlight the problems that exist between the widow and other family members over the management of Foe`s legacy.
Martin Foe also pointed out that Marie-Louise has failed `to inform us` about the financial donations made to her and the children.
