All Cameroon clubs survive (27.04.2004)
Martin Etonge
Cotonsport Garoua, Canon Yaounde, PWD Bamenda and Sable Batie have moved into the second round of their various continental competitions.
The clubs reached the next round thanks to their first leg positive results. The return leg results were not in their favour.
In the Champions League, Cotonsport lost 0-1 to Saint Michel Ouenze in Brazzaville, but went through 4-2 on aggregate, while Canon Yaounde pulled a one all draw away to AS Victoria Club Kinshaha, enough for them to jump into the 8th finals with a 4-1 aggregate score line to their favour.
In the Confederation Cup, both Sable and PWD Bamenda benefited from the away goal
rule to qualify. PWD lost 1-2 to TP Mazembe of the DR Congo. Luckily they had taken an away leg 1-0 win in Douala. That sees them through.
Sable were very fortunate to have harvested a one all draw with US O’Mbilia Nzami of Gabon in Douala. After getting the curtain raiser, O’Mbilia threw away a penalty before Sable could equalise.
Thanks to their two all first leg draw, Sable went through to the 8th finals, where they will meet Transfoot Madagascar.
The other opponents of Cameroon clubs in the 8th finals are Esperance Tunis for Cotonsport, Jeanne d’Arc Senegal for Canon and AS Douanes Senegal for PWD Bamenda. The two-leg games will be played next month.
