Cameroon - Morocco World Cup Date Pushed Back (10.05.2009)
The date of the World Cup qualifier between the North Africans and their Group A opponents has been pushed back by one day to accommodate a request from Cameroon’s football federation. According to mountakhab.net, Morocco will have to wait an extra day to face off against the Indomitable Lions in Yaounde as FIFA have accepted the Cameroonian Football Federation’s request to have the fixture changed from the June 6 to June 7.The reason for the change of date is reportedly so that the West Africans will have as much time as possible to finish construction work on the facilities at the Ahmadou Ahidjo
Stadium, which was the site of an open air mass during the visit of Pope Benedict to the country. The changing of the date shouldn’t give either team an edge or put their other group members, Togo and Gabon, at a disadvantage. Meanwhile, the date for the fixture between group leaders Gabon and second placed Togo is currently June 6. In any case, the match between Cameroon and the Atlas Lions promises to be a sizzler. Both teams lost their opening games and will be looking to gain full points in order to ensure that their chances of qualifying for South Africa 2010 aren’t prematurely compromised.
