Cameroon sanction players (30.11.2004)
Cameroon`s Football Federation, Fecafoot, has handed one-year bans to eight players.
They were found guilty of registering for two second division clubs during the recently concluded season.
Bertrand Mbang and Jean Pierre Talom of Electsport Limbe, Frederic Tchami and Ferdinand Sali of Girondins Ngaoundere and Celestin Didier Belibi of ASMY Ebolowa are among the players affected by the ban.
Others are Alain William Yetgoue and Ernest Epane of Aigle Dschang and Felix Doba Malla of Etoile Filante Garoua.
It is the first time that Fecafoot has banned players guilty of this offence, which has been a recurring problem in Cameroonian football.
The double-registration was discovered
when Fecafoot`s secretariat decided to compare the registers from each provincial club at the end of this season.
Fecafoot`s secretary-general, Atangana Mballa, said the federation decided to impose the sanctions to ensure players adhered to the rules.
Poor record-keeping has enabled several players to move between second division clubs without following laid-down rules.
The exercise to compare registers from the provincial leagues was aimed at preparing for the on-going national tournament of provincial champions.
The suspended players come from some of the clubs participating in the ten-team tournament.
The top four teams in the competition will gain promotion to division one.
