Lauren blow sparks defensive dilemma (22.02.2007)
LAUREN faces weeks out after tearing his thigh in training.
The Pompey defender was hurt crossing the ball for Kanu.
He limped off and will miss at least the next two games against Blackburn and Chelsea.
It is a huge blow for Lauren, who had only just returned after a year out with a knee injury.
It represents another setback for the Cameroon international after he lost his place in Pompey`s side to Sean Davis.
It also leaves Harry Redknapp with defensive worries ahead of Chelsea`s visit to Fratton Park in 10 days.
For the first time since joining Pompey, Lauren was poised to start that game in his favoured position of right-back.
Glen Johnson, who has been the regular at right-back for the Blues, can`t play against Chelsea under the conditions of his loan.
Pompey boss Redknapp now needs either Linvoy Primus or Dejan Stefanovic to recover
from injury in time so he can reshuffle his defence to cope.
Lauren was hurt towards the end of Pompey`s training session yesterday lunchtime.
The 30-year-old was crossing balls in from the right when he felt his thigh go.
Physio Gary Sadler helped Lauren off the pitch and took him straight to the treatment room.
Redknapp said: `Lauren has picked up a thigh strain that doesn`t look too good.
`He was crossing the ball, and it looks like he might have a tear.
`It`s a big blow for all of us.
`We go into the Chelsea game a week after next with no Glen Johnson, and that would have been an ideal opportunity to get Lauren into his right position.
