Three vie for Cameroon job (22.04.2004)
Incumbent Mohammed Iya is one of three candidates in the race for the presidency of Cameroon`s football federation (Fecafoot).
Former Fecafoot boss Vincent Onana and Jean Baptist Nguini have also thrown their hats into the ring for Saturday`s election in Yaounde.
But Onana`s quest to regain the leadership of Cameroonian football has stunned many fans.
He was kicked out from his post in 1988 after a World Cup ticketing scandal. He was subsequently detained for two years.
But Onana says he wants to return to continue the "good job" he started, claiming that Cameroon`s football has been "dragged down by mismanagement".
JeanBaptist Nguini, founder of division one club Renaissance Ngoumou, also told BBC Sport that he wants to breathe new life into the country`s administrative body.
The four-year old Renaissance are in their second season in the first division and Nguini is pointing out their relative success as proof of what he can do should he be elected.
However, Iya thinks he has done enough to deserve another term in office. He claimed that Fecafoot`s increased revenue is an indication of his effectiveness at the helm.
Under Iya`s leadership, Fecafoot purchased an office building and paid debts of over $120,000 - including salary arrears for Fecafoot staff.
