round, but almost stumbled in the first round qualifiers last August when it faced Niger. In the away match, the Junior Lions had a narrow edge over Niger, 1 — 0, while in the return match, Niger dominated Cameroon 2 — 1. Cameroon, however, moved on due to the away goal advantage. In the second round qualifiers, Cameroon walked over Malawi in both the home and away matches with identical scores of 2 — 0.
Following the draws conducted in Congo on October 29, 2006, the eight qualified teams were divided into two groups. Cameroon will play in Group B along side Nigeria, Egypt and Zambia. Group B matches will take place in Pointe Noire. Group A teams, on the other hand, will play in Brazzaville. They are: Congo, Cote d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso and Gambia.
