Setubal deny Benfica in cup final.Albert Meyong scores. (30.05.2005)
LISBON, Portugal (AP) -- Setubal won the Portuguese Cup for the first time in 40 years and denied league champions Benfica the domestic double with a 2-1 win in the final in Lisbon on Sunday.
Cameroon striker Albert Meyong tapped in a rebound in the 72nd minute to seal Setubal`s comeback after Benfica`s Simao Sabrosa scored with a penalty on four minutes.
Manuel Jose had equalized in the 25th with a low drive into the area that ricocheted off defender Ricardo Rocha into the net.
Setubal has won the cup three times, but the last time was in 1965 when it also defeated Benfica in
the final.
Benfica, which last week won the league title for first time in 11 years and was pursuing its 10th league and cup double, has won the cup 24 times but was far off its best form at the National Stadium in Lisbon.
"We put all our effort into winning the league," Benfica coach Giovanni Trapattoni said. "We were tired out."
Sabrosa converted a penalty after Brazilian winger Geovanni was fouled during a counterattack, but Benfica rarely threatened the Setubal goalkeeper.
Meyong pounced to score when `keeper Jose Moreira failed to hold a shot from Ricardo Chaves.
