Kameni set for Premiership (01.04.2005)
soccer365.com
Espanyol boss Miguel Angel Lotina has admitted that Carlos Kameni is likely to leave Espanyol for the Premiership in the summer.
The Cameroon international has been the subject of interest from several top European sides, including Arsenal and Manchester United, after some heroic performances in goal for Espanyol this season, and none more so than in the local derby against Barcelona at the Camp Nou, where he continually thwarted the home side`s attacks.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was at that match and he also spoke to the goalkeeper when the pair attended the Tsunami charity game in Barcelona.
Manchester United have also followed Kameni closely and
goalkeeping coach Tony Coton has been a regular in the stands of the Olympic Stadium.
"The idea of the club is that Carlos remains in the squad. He is a player who is growing and his value is increasing which means that if an offer came then we could not discard it automatically and for that reason the sports director is looking at players daily," Lotina told Catalan daily Sport.
"In England there are various teams that have problems with their goalkeepers and so it would not be strange if an offer is made for him.
"The match against Barcelona was shown around Europe and Kameni was sensational. If an offer arrives, a situation that has not yet happened, then we will have to consider it."
