Women’s Football: Africa’s Best Brace Up (26.10.2006)
Three days to the start of the 5th African Women’s Championship, Cameroon Tribune launches a series on the event.
The 5th African Women’s Championship will take place in Nigeria from October 28 2006 to November 11, 2006. The event in four towns in the Delta State — Warri, Ughelli, Oghara and Oleh, will bring together eight teams. The teams have been pooled into two groups. Group A comprises Nigeria, Algeria, South Africa and Equatorial Guinea. Group B on the other hand brings together Cameroon, Ghana, Mali and RD Congo.
Since their qualification, all the teams have been preparing seriously for the great football jamboree. Seven teams are going to Nigeria with one motive — beat the Super
Falconswho have won every tournament since the inaugural event that Nigeria staged in Kaduna and Abeokuta in 1998. Nigeria on the other hand is bracing up to conquer once again. This year’s championship is of utmost importance as the finalists will automatically qualify for the World Cup next year in China.
Cameroon Tribune is launching a series on the event that will go on till the end of the event. The lively series, which begins with the presentation of Group A teams, will feature in-depth reports, feature articles, analysis, interviews and tit bits on the actors and competition as a whole, by our team of reporters in Nigeria and football specialists. Welcome to three weeks of feminine football extravaganza!
