CAMEROON STRIKER EKWE TO JOIN PIETA (03.03.2004)
Cameroon forward Alan Ekwe is expected to become the third foreigner on the books of Pietà Hotspurs after the 22-year-old left a good impression during training with the Premier League club. Club president Edward Schembri yesterday confirmed to The Times that Pietà had agreed terms with the player and are only waiting theinternational clearance to register him.
For the past two seasons, Ekwe has been plying his trade in Portugal and was on the books of Boavista. Last season, he was on loan with a club from Division Two.
The Cameroon forward will fill the void left by Fransis Omam who was released by the Hotspurs earlier this month after struggling with injury.
Pietà are hoping that Ekwe`s
documents will be available in the coming days to register him in time for Sunday`s clash against Floriana.
Meanwhile, the Hotspurs were also one of the clubs, along with Valletta and Birkirkara, to make an approach for Sliema midfielder Massimo Grima.
However, a Sliema spokesman said that these offers were rejected as the club were only ready to accept a player-swap deal. He added that the transfer will only go through if an adequate replacement is found.
During this month`s transfer window, four players have left the Blues to join other Premier League clubs. Daniel Bogdanovic moved to Marsa-xlokk, Nenad Veselji and Jamie Palace were loaned to Valletta while Stefano Grima joined Balzan.
