Arie Haan Bounces Back with Ambitious Plan for Lions (15.01.2007)
A Cameroon-Cote d’Ivoire friendly in view.
The head coach of the Indomitable Lions, Arie Haan, arrived in the country last January 8, with an ambitious training programme for the national football team. The programme will have to be submitted to the executive committee of the Cameroon Football Federation and the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education for approval. The FECAFOOT executive bureau meeting is scheduled for January 19, 2007.
Though the Dutchman is unwilling to let the cat out of the bag, sources close to FECAFOOT say the programme includes a remake of the quarter finals between Cameroon and Cote d’Ivoire during the last African Cup of Nations in Egypt. The match if approved, will probably take place on February 7, 2007. The venue of the match is yet to be determined. In the absence of this match, the Lions may camp in Paris for 48 hours

and play a keep fit match against a local selection, before the encounter against Liberia. The match counting for the third day of play of eliminatory match for the African Cup of Nations in Ghana, 2008, will be played between Match 23 and 25, 2007.
Arie Haan, who came this time without his assistant, fellow Dutchman Theo De Jong, was last in Cameroon during the finals of the African Military Football Cup on December 17, after a public outcry about his prolonged absence from the country. As opposed to the match against the Nzalang Nacional of Equatorial Guinea, Arie Haan this time will be benefiting from the return of goal fetcher, Samuel Eto’o Fils and ace defender, Piere Wome Nlend who put an end to his boycott of the national team after meeting with the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Augustin Thierry Edjoa while on holidays in Cameroon last December.
