Egypt in World Cup dilemma (31.08.2004)
By Amr Shaheen
BBC Sport, Cairo
Egypt striker Ahmed `Mido` Hossam and three other players have been ruled out of Sunday`s World Cup qualifier against Cameroon.
French club Marseille told the Egyptian FA that Mido is suffering from a groin injury.
The 21-year-old is yet to play a match in the group stages of the 2006 World Cup qualifying series.
Forward Ahmed Bilal, who has scored 17 goals in only 16 appearances for his country, has been struggling to regain form, while captain Hazem Emam failed to pass a fitness test.
Abdel Halim Ali, the top scorer in the league, is suspended
while Denmark-based Mohamed Zidan was ignored after revealing his desire to play for Denmark.
"It is a real dilemma, before such a crucial match," Samier Adly, administrative manager of the Egyptian national team, told BBC Sport.
With a dearth of experienced strikers for the qualifier, 22-year-old Osama Hosny, who has made only five appearances for the national team, is expected to lead the attack.
Hosny plays for Cairo club Al Ahly.
The Pharaohs are currently third in their World Cup qualifying group, behind Cameroon and the Ivory Coast.
Libya, Benin and Sudan are the other teams in the group.
