Cameroon`s Douala to get 60,000-seater stadium (13.05.2005)
Douala, Cameroon- Cameroon`s economic capital, Douala will soon get a 60,000-seater stadium under an agreement signed here Wednesday by Greek and local partners.
According to the agreement, Greece will fully finance the construction of sports facilities to cater for handball, volleyball, basketball, athletics, swimming and other disciplines. The cost of the project was not revealed.
According to Cameroonian sports authorities, the facility will enable Douala to host major competitions.

work could start before the end of this year, while construction proper is scheduled to begin next year.
"We are determined to give our city a sports complex worthy of its standing," municipal authorities said, adding that the stadium will improve the urban landscape.
Cameroon has a serious problem of sports facilities.Apart from football, sports disciplines are struggling for adequate venues in the country.
Thanks to Chinese cooperation, another sports complex will soon be built in the capital, Yaounde.
