Arie Haan’s Vision For the Indomitable Lions
The Coach says he will carry out profound changes in the squad.
The coach of Cameroon’s national football team, the Indomitable Lions has reiterated his determination to put fresh blood in the team. Speaking in an exclusive interview to the website of the world football governing body, FIFA.com, the Dutch man said the Indomitable Lions failed to qualify for the World Cup in Germany and got eliminated from the African Cup of Nations because the team was already at the end of its cycle. "When players have their habits, they at times loose their fighting spirit. The spirit of competition is still there but the team no longer has that thirst for victory which propels players to give their all. If one or two youths are introduced into the squad, then I think it won’t waste time to regain its mark. No one likes to loose his position in the national team and this competition can only be positive for the team", Arie Haan said.
Commenting on the introduction of Nguemo Landry who scored a goal in the Lions’ 3 nil spanking over Rwanda, 57-year-old Arie Haan said he was a promising youth who plays for Nancy in France. "I am noted for giving a chance to young players on condition that they have the level and their behaviour is irreproachable," he said.
He said the duration of his contract (2 years) was convenient for him to know the people to work with and put in place his own method, after which an evaluation will be done. Two-time world vice champion with the Dutch national team as a player, Arie Haan, revealed that he was already looking for an apartment in Yaounde and that he will be carrying out profound changes with local trainers, in order to conserve the maximum number of young players in the country. The coach, who said he was introduced to the Cameroon football federation by a friend and noted that it was an honour for him to train the Indomitable Lions which is one of the most popular teams of the world. "One can win trophies with them", he said. His ambition he said, is to win the African Cup of Nations in Ghana. Africa; he observed, has individual talents capable of winning the World Cup but much work has to be done tactically to realise this dream.
