CISM Congratulates Cameroon’s Organisational Skills
The 3rd annual session of the BOD meeting of CISM ended yesterday.
Cameroon has been hailed for the good organisation of the third annual session of the board of directors meeting of the International Military Sports Council better known by its French acronym CISM and the 6th edition of the African military football cup currently going on in the country. The praises were lavished on Cameroon by the president of the International Military Sports Council (CISM) Italian born, Gianna Gola, during the closing ceremony of the board meeting at the Mont Febe hotel in Yaounde yesterday. This, he said, has enabled the International Military Sports Council to be better known in the world.
The CISM president said they had had the opportunity to witness two football matches in Cameroon’s football temple, first the Cup of Cameroon final and the opening game of the o-going military football tournament and were touched by the hospitality of the people, their interest in the game and level of performance. General Gianna Gola who received the Cameroonian medal of valour, expressed gratitude to the government for the decoration and support in the organisation of the tournament in Cameroon. He said the International Military Sports Council was doing well thanks to countries like Cameroon who support military sports and provide technical and logistic support.
The president of the organisation of military sports in Africa, (OSMA), Colonel Kalkaba Malboum, said the meeting enabled them to assess the path covered as well as map out ways for the future. Commenting on the conclusions of the Yaounde meeting, the colonel said they studied the calendar of military Sports especially the upcoming World cup in India. He said they had also decided to hold their general assembly in 2008 and celebrate the 60th anniversary of the organisation. The president of OSMA, which is an affiliate of the International Military Sports Council, said they also programmed activities for the organisation up to 2011 and opened tenders for the organisation of the next World Cup in military football after the one in India.
The greatest achievement of CISM, according to the colonel, is being able to bring top military officers across the world together in the name of Sports and through this, build new friendship. Colonel Kalkaba Malboum was given the medal of the Cameroon order of merit alongside five other officials of CISM. The closing ceremony was presided by the Minister of Defence, Remy Ze Meka, in the company of the Secretary of State, in charge of the Gendarmerie.
