Italian first division match reports
ROME
Reports of matches in the Italian first division:
Played on Sunday:
BOLOGNA 4 LECCE 3
Bologna maintained their bid for a Champions League place with a thrilling win over relegation threatened Lecce.
Fabio Pecchia opened the scoring on 13 minutes with a low drive, but Lecce drew level six minutes later thanks to defender Gheorghe Popescu`s first goal in Serie A.
The veteran then put the visitors in front after 37 minutes before the break with a fierce drive from the edge of the box.
Bologna striker Giuseppe Signori saw his deflected effort turned in by Julio Cruz on 67 minutes before Uruguayan Ernesto Chevanton put Lecce in front again on the counter-attack.
But Bologna turned the game around as Signori`s magnificent free kick clattered off the bar into the net four minutes later and defender Salvatore Fresi snatched the winner with a powerful header from a Signori cross on 82 minutes.

BRESCIA 3 PERUGIA 0
A first-half Luca Toni hat-trick moved relegation-threatened Brescia out of the danger zone. The unmarked Toni showed fine control to turn past goalkeeper Oscar Cordoba and fire home from just outside the six-metre box after nine minutes.
The defence was again at fault for Toni`s second as Iranian Rahman Rezaei allowed the Brescia forward a free header from Andrea Sussi`s cross. Toni completed his hat-trick two minutes before the break with an impressive finish as he turned and fired home a volley for his 11th goal of the season.

CHIEVO VERONA 2 VERONA 1
Chievo went wild with celebration as they made up for their defeat earlier in the season in the first ever local derby against Verona by securing victory over their rivals on Sunday with their first Serie A win since halfway through the season.
Verona went ahead after 13 minutes as Adrian Mutu`s initial header was not cleared and the Romanian showed quick reflexes to turn in the loose ball. Chievo drew level just before the break through striker Federico Cossato who tapped in from close range.
Luigi Del Neri`s men laid siege to Verona`s goal in the second half and the pressure paid off 16 minutes from time when Verona-born Cossato met Eriberto`s cut back to give Chievo victory.

INTER MILAN 3 AS ROMA 1
Two goals by Alvaro Recoba and one by Christian Vieri powered Inter to a thriling top of the table victory over defending champions AS Roma.
Uruguay`s Recoba scored inside two minutes as he dribbled past two defenders and the goalkeeper before sliding home.
The Roma fans were up in arms on 37 minutes when Marco Delvecchio missed an open goal as his shot hit the far post.
Fabio Capello`s side paid for that mistake as a defensive error set Recoba free and Vieri stretched backwards to nod in his 19th goal of the season two minutes before the break.
Roma began the second half on the attack and it paid off when Montella and Cafu combined well before a splendid Francesco Totti volley brought them back into the game in the 57th minute.
But Recoba once again proved decisive with one of his characteristic free kicks as he curled the ball into the top corner from 27 metres with a simply unstoppable strike.
Tension on the pitch rose and there was a scuffle between Recoba and Jonathan Zebina. The Frenchman took it further moments later when he slapped Recoba around the head in an off the ball incident 12 minutes from time and was dismissed.
Inter`s Turkish substitute Emre Belzoglu was also sent off in stoppage time for an ugly foul on Emerson.
Inter lead Serie A on 59 points, three more than Roma and four in front of Juventus with six matches left.

LAZIO 2 UDINESE 0
An uneventful first half came to life just before the break when Simone Inzaghi controlled Fabio Liverani`s long ball, allowing Dejan Stankovic to tap in from close range.
Udinese were left with 10 men for the final 20 minutes when Gennaro Scarlato picked up his second yellow card.
Alberto Zaccheroni`s side made the points safe when goalkeeper Luigi Turci failed to hold a Claudio Lopez effort and substitute Stefano Fiore tapped in the loose ball 11 minutes from time.

PIACENZA 0 AC MILAN 1
Filippo Inzaghi made only his second start since rupturing knee ligaments in November and was brought down by Alessandro Lucarelli for a penalty. Brazilian Serginho converted the spot-kick to secure a precious win for Carlo Ancelotti`s side.
Milan`s injury problems continued as Rui Costa limped off towards the end of the first half with a suspected thigh strain and Alessandro Costacurta sprained his right knee.

TORINO 1 FIORENTINA 0
The pressure is mounting on second from bottom Fiorentina and it showed as coach Ottavio Bianchi was sent off for dissent after just 11 minutes.
That seemed to calm things down but in the 27th minute Marco Ferrante fed a fine through ball to winger Alessio Scarchilli who unleashed a rising drive that beat Alex Manninger.
Torino`s win virtually condemns Fiorentina to Serie B.

VENEZIA 0 ATALANTA 1
Serie A`s bottom club Venezia may be all but relegated but they still attacked from the start.
Arturo Di Napoli had a chance to give them the lead early on, but his weak finish proved easy prey for goalkeeper Massimo Taibi. Venezia continued to apply the pressure forcing Taibi to make miraculous saves from Di Napoli and Fabian Valtolina.
But it was the visitors who broke the deadlock five minutes from time when Cristiano Doni`s cross was nodded in by Fausto Rossini.
