Senegal says no to Metsu
Senegal`s football federation has said that coach Bruno Metsu will not be granted a 10 month leave of absence to manage a club in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
"There is no possibility that we would allow him to go away for 10 months and come back," said Bounama Dieye, vice-president of the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF).
Dieye confirmed to BBC Sport Online that Metsu will forfeit his job as national coach to take up the new appointment with Al Ain.
Metsu`s meeting with Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade led to speculation that the laid-back coach would be allowed to take a break from his post.
"When we talked to the President, he said he had his opinion, but that his opinion as President is not to be imposed on the Ministry of Sports or the Federation," said Dieye.
Following Metsu`s departure, the FSF are seeking a replacement but Abdoulaye Sarr and Jules Bocande, Metsu`s previous assistants, will take charge of team matters.
"It is clear for the FSF that we must secure the gains that Senegalese football has made in recent years. The future is very important," Dieye said.
That future, at least in the short term, will not include Metsu, but Dieye does not rule out a future role for the French tactician.
"He did a very nice job, and we have a very good relationship with him.
"We do not see any reason why we would not look very closely at his application if he wanted to come back in the future."
