Denmark 2 Cameroon 1
A Lucien Mettomo own-goal and Jon Dahl Tomasson`s penalty gave Denmark a 2-0 lead before Sedan defender Modeste Mbami pulled one pack for the visitors in the Parken Stadium, Copenhagen, on Friday night.
The two World Cup participants produced a poor game as Denmark said goodbye to their own fans by inflicting the first defeat on Cameroon coach Winfried Schafer since his appointment in September.
The game started tepidly and there had not been a shot on goal when Cameroon defender Mettomo turned a Dennis Rommedahl cross into his own net on 20 minutes.
The goal inspired the Danes and Tomasson and Martin Jorgensen both had chances to double the lead as Cameroon failed to get any tempo into their play.
Schafer reacted by making five substitutions at half-time and things improved for the African Nations Cup holders.
But Denmark added a second in the 58th minute when Claus Jensen was awarded a dubious penalty, which Tomasson fired past Cameroon goalkeeper Alioum Boukar
The visitors finally started creating chances with some neat passing after the second goal and Mbami rose to head in a Patrick Mboma free-kick with 16 minutes to go.
Denmark coach Morten Olsen said: "Our combinations never really started working, but we have to remember that we were up against the African champions and that these players were very fast."
Home captain Jan Heintze added: "We have been training hard during the week, so our feet were rather heavy, particularly in the last 20 minutes. Considering that, I think we did an OK job."
