Milla Offers Balls to Handball Federation
The Roving Ambassador gave 100 balls to the federation yesterday.
The Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Philippe Mbarga Mboa, recently presided over the handing over ceremony of sports equipment to the Cameroon Handball Federation (FECAHAND) at the conference hall of the Ministry. Roving Ambassador Roger Milla, President of the "Foundation Coeur d’Afrique" in Yaounde, offerd the equipment comprising 100 balls.
Speaking during the occasion, the Director of Sports Norms, Betala Cecile, said that the donation shows Milla’s determination to develop sports in Cameroon. She called on the president of FECAHAND to use the equipment judiciously and to ensure that they contribute to the development of handball in the country.
The President of FECAHAND, Moudime Mama, said that the donation would permit the federation to inspire a new dynamism in various handball-training centres in the country. The donation, according to him, will enable the national youth handball league and the national technical direction to work together to fulfil their mission. "The ball is now in our court to ensure an efficient use of the equipment", he said. He thanked the Roving ambassador for the gesture and expressed the wish that he assists the federation to get sponsors to build a handball complex for the federation, organise training workshops, friendly matches, as well as sign conventions with foreign organisations.
The Roving ambassador used the occasion to invite all Cameroonians to join in the development of sports in the country. His wish is to see that Cameroon handball shine, not only in Africa, but also in the world.
On his part, the Minister reiterated that the government alone cannot finance sports federations. " It concerns all Cameroonians and the civil society", he said. He congratulated the Roving Ambassador for his kind gesture adding the government will support his efforts in the development of the sports movement in Cameroon.
Meanwhile, Minister Mbarga Mboa, last Tuesday offered a collection of balls and the sum of CFA one million on the College Adventist secondary school in Nlongkak in Yaounde in a bid to improve the quality of sports in the school milieu.
