Cameroon thanks Fifa
Cameroon`s Minister of Youth and Sport Siegfried Etame Massoma has thanked Fifa for lifting their six point World Cup sanction.
The Minister speaking on behalf of the government went onto urge the Cameroon football federation (Fecafoot) to be more responsible and not to disobey Fifa`s orders in the future.
The Indomitable Lions were docked six points from their 2006 World Cup qualifying campaign by Fifa`s disciplinary committee for using a one-piece kit in the quarter-finals of the African Cup of Nations in Tunisia.
The punishment was revoked by Fifa`s centennial congress on Friday after Cameroon received the unanimous backing of Caf at their extraordinary general assembly on 19 May.
"The government and the people of Cameroon are very grateful for Fifa`s decision to lift the sanction on the Indomitable Lions," the Minister said.
"On behalf of the Government of Cameroon and its President Paul Biya, I thank firstly Fifa`s Centennial Congress and secondly Sepp Blatter for the timely decision."
"I also wish to thank the Confederation of African Football - Caf - whose intervention was laudable and all those countries that supported Cameroon during these difficult times."
"I also thank the people of Cameroon for their patience while the government was doing everything to see that the problem was solved."
The Minister went on to urge Fecafoot to respect all of Fifa`s rules and regulations in all competitions.
"I call upon all authorities of Cameroon football from the bottom to the top to respect all the rules and regulations governing football in the interest of all those practicing the sport and their fans."
Cameroon are in Group B of the 2006 World Cup and African Cup of Nations qualifiers alongside Egypt, Ivory Coast, Benin, Libya and Sudan.
The Indomitable Lions start their campaign on 6 June in Yaounde against Benin.Hits: 1 | Source:BBC
