Radebe in as Lekgetho misses out for South Africa
Lokomotiv Moscow defender Jacob Lekgetho is the surprise omission from Jomo Sono`s 23-man squad to travel to the World Cup in Korea and Japan this summer. His Loko team-mate Bennet Mnguni, who has not played first team football since moving to Russia in March, is included.
While no official announcement has come from the South African Football Association, certain press and TV journalists were on hand when Sono chose to name his squad.
Mark Fish, who has been battling with injury of late, has withdrawn from the squad, while former Under-23 captain Matthew Booth, who had previously been put on standby, has been selected, as has Lucas Radebe, who has only just returned from 15 months out with knee and ankle injuries.
Sono has also included two players from Jomo Cosmos, the club which he owns. It is no secret that he has used the national coaching job as his shop window over the past few months.
The only uncapped player in the squad is talented youngster Steven Pienaar, who has recently broken into the Ajax squad.
Third-choice goalkeeper Calvin Marlin takes precedence over Emille Baron, who was refused permission to travel by his Norwegian club Lillestrom, as they still have League commitments.
