Senegal seeks compromise with Foreign Legion
Officials of the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) insist there is "room for compromise" in negotiations over World Cup payments.
FSF President, El Hadj Malick Sy, meets French based players of the national team to resolve the dispute.
Bournama Gueye, 1st Vice-President of the FSF, told BBC Sport Online that they are "willing to come into an agreement" over the bonuses to be paid during the 2002 World Cup finals.
"We are very open to discuss bonuses for any games that they win or draw during the World Cup tournament.
" But we fixed the amount to be paid for World Cup qualification as far back as April and there`s no going back on that" Gueye said.
Money for development
The players are asking for a fourfold increase from the original offer of US$13,500 per man for getting to the World Cup finals.
Gueye insists that the money due to Senegal from FIFA - from which the players are demanding an increased bonus - is needed for "development programmes"
"The World Cup money that FIFA is giving is not for the players alone.
" We are a developing country and we are lagging behind with our infrastructure. Football in Senegal has to benefit from this money"
Some players have threatened to pull out of the Nations Cup squad if their demands are not met. But Gueye says that will not happen
"We have good news that the players are willing to talk with us and come to a settlement. Everything will be resolved"
Following Senegal`s recent 1-0 victory over Algeria in a friendly match, Gueye says the pay dispute will not affect their performance in Mali.
