SC Freiburg continue to struggle following their recent elimination from the German and UEFA Cups. Cologne picked up an away point in their coach Ewald Lienen`s 150th Bundesliga match as a trainer. Midfielder Dirk Lottner, the visitors` captain, squandered two good chances in the first half.

SCHALKE 04 0 HERTHA BERLIN 0
The best opportunities fell to the visitors, who restored some pride three days after losing 3-0 at home to Servette to exit the UEFA Cup. Schalke, who showed very little, survived a fright in the seventh minute when Hertha midfielder Andreas Neuendorf hit the post with a header.

It all started well for Bayern, headed goals from strikers Claudio Pizarro and Elber giving them a 2-0 lead after 17 minutes. Croatian striker Tomislav Maric reduced the arrears with an angled shot just before halftime, and midfielder Dietmar Kuehbauer levelled from 20 metres out in the 53rd minute. Peru`s Pizarro exploited a blunder by the Wolfsburg defence to put Bayern back in lead four minutes later, but Maric hit his second goal with 19 minutes remaining to give the visitors a share of the points.

Belgian defender Didier Dheedene scored the only goal of the match in the 65th minute, inflicting on VfB Stuttgart their first home defeat of the season.

The visitors moved ahead against the run of play with a deflected shot from the edge of the box by Egyptian defender Hany Ramzy in the 31st minute. Brazilian midfielder Lincoln completed the victory from close range two minutes into the second half.

Germany midfielder Lars Ricken scored from close range in the 51st minute for a victory which kept the 1997 European champions in second place, two points behind the leaders.

Ukraine defender Victor Skripnik opened the scoring for the visitors from a penalty in the 19th minute after St Pauli midfielder Oliver Held had handled the ball. Brazilian striker Ailton made it 2-0 from close range in the 55th minute and midfielder Tim Borowski added a third in the 69th minute.

BAYER LEVERKUSEN 4 NUREMBERG 2
Brazilian striker Cacau put the visitors ahead from inside the penalty area in the 26th minute. Brazilian midfielder Ze Roberto collected a fine pass from Argentine defender Diego Placente to equalise two minutes later. A superb Cacau goal put Nuremberg back ahead in the 59th minute but Leverkusen fought back again with a goal by Zoltan Sebescen just three minutes later. Fellow Germany midfielder Michael Ballack gave Leverkusen the lead with a header shortly afterwards before striker Oliver Neuville sealed the leaders` victory six minutes from time.

Midfielder Rene Rydlewicz opened the scoring for the visitors with a fine effort from 25 metres in the 13th minute. The home side`s defender Steffen Korell was sent off four minutes later for denying Swedish midfielder Peter Wibran a scoring opportunity by bringing him down. Moenchengladbach goalkeeper Joerg Stiel pushed out a penalty from Rydlewicz in the 73rd minute but Swedish striker Magnus Arvidsson followed up to score, giving caretaker coach Juri Schluenz a 2-0 victory for his first match in charge.
