Mboma scores again in Japan
The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon goal merchant, Patrick Mboma on Sunday September 2, scored on his return to Japan as a J-League World XI beat a Japanese select side 4-2 in the annual JOMO Cup match in Tokyo.
The reigning African player of the year who netted his side`s second goal in the first half, is a former player of J-League club Gamba Osaka.He was making a guest appearance for the World XI.
Current player of Parma in Italy`s Serie A, Mboma, whose country was first in the world to pick-up a world Cup qualifying ticket took advantage of a lucky ricochet to slot the ball home from 20 metres.
It was the second time Mboma was playing in Japan this year, after the Confederations cup during which the reigning African champions Cameroon performed badly Sunday`s win levelled the series to three wins each with one match drawn since the JOMO Cup began in 1995.
"This is going to be a long season ahead of the World Cup, so it will be important to do well with Parma and prepare properly for Cameroon`s challenge here next year," said Mboma.
He was also voted the African Sports Personality of the Year 2000 by BBC African Service listeners.
Before the debut of the season, many clubs including Inter-Milan, Chelsea had expressed interest in him, but Parma authorities to allow the Cameroonian hit man who is still on contract to go.
