Another German tipped for Lions job
After the spurning of the Indomitable Lions job by German born soccer coach Horst Koppel, another German has been highly tipped to lead he African champions the African Nations Cup and the World Cup next year.
According to the state newspaper “Cameroon Tribune”, four German coaches (Beti Vogts, Uli Stielecke, Otto Rehhagel and Winfred Schafer) shortlisted by the Cameroon football federation have been highly rated to lead the Lions the two expeditions.
The state paper reported that reasons for the current option for German soccer technology are connected to the “Meridian agreement” which placed Cameroon at the disposal of German football federation (GFF).
One important term in the agreement is the fact that German facilities, technology and manpower will be placed at the disposal of the Indomitable Lions for two weeks, free of charge.
Furthermore, the high profile friendly pitting the Lions against a Germany before the World Cup promises generous financial fall outs for Cameroon that will need resources to pay a head coach and his assistants for at least one year.
This and more therefore explain why Cameroonian football authorities have put more emphases negotiating with Germans rather than with other eight nationals in the twelve man list.
