Schafer talks about building a new squad

Indomitable Lions coach, Winnie Schafer has been speaking about his ambition to build a strong squad that will bring more victories to Cameroon in future competitions.
In a press conference in Yaounde on Thursday, Schafer said he will have several training camps with many players before the next event which is the Confederations Cup in France next June.
“We all have to work together to achieve that – the coaches, administrators and even the families of the players”. Schafer said.
In search for a team, six players who were in camp last month have been dropped. Schafer said he will continuously test the players.
Fecafoot’s secretary general, Jean Rene Atangana Mballa said Schafer found a team that was virtually imposed on him in September 200, when he was recruited. But now Schafer has the time to build his own squad. That is why Fecafoot opted that his contract be renewed.
In his second training camp after the World Cup Schafer has summoned 28 players to Yaounde. But there were worries about the absence of Wome Nlend and Lauren Etame.
“We have not chased away these players. I have simply not called up Wome this time, while I have to talk to Lauren and convince him to join us”.
Schafer said it was normal for Lauren to feel disappointed after the World Cup. He praised Lauren for his great talent and discipline.
Schafer said they will struggle to get giant friendlies each month as they follow Fifa and Uefa calendars to know when the players are free. Algeria is already on the line for next month, he announced.
Schafer said he would like his contract to go beyond 2004, so that he could lead the Indomitable Lions to the World in Germany.
