What appreciation can you make of your first outing at the 2006 African Cup of Nations?
We had a good match against Angola. The Indomitable Lions did just what was expected of them; that is to grab the three precious points that were at stake. We have to keep this motivation. And above all, we have to remain calm and keep the team spirit very high.
You have started training for your next match against Togo. On what aspects are you laying emphasis?
Everything was not perfect last Saturday. There are areas that we have to work on. But as I said, the essential was done. We succeeded to score goals and it was very important for us because to win you must score. We thank Sammy (Samuel Eto`o Fils) for his three goals. He did just what we expected of him. The team was also united. I hope in the next matches Eto`o Fils would continue to be the pace setter of the team as he did in the first match. If Sammy continues in this light, there is no doubt that we would go very far in the competition.
The defense was not very strong. There were lopeholes. What went wrong?
I don`t know what to say. I can`t really explain. But I think it was because we were still searching for our bearings. Last Saturday, we played with Atouba, meanwhile it is not with him that we play all the time in the back row. It was the start. Don`t blame us a lot. We took note of the short coming. We are presently working on the mistakes to ensure better results in the next matches. We would certainly be more coherent in our next matches. We would have a stronger defense.
