Season enters second, crucial phase

The most decisive part of the 2004 season will commence this weekend in both the Super League and the National league.
Two crowd-puller games are scheduled in the Super League which is expected to sparkle as all eight teams gun for the title. Union Douala travel to Yaounde to face permanent rivals Canon Yaounde.
Canon took four points out of six when both teams met during the first phase. So Union have a chance to catch up before the season ends.
The other crucial game will involve two giants from the West province – Racing who topped Pool B in the first round against Bamboutos Mbouda. Bamboutos appeared feeble at the beginning of the season, but can now show proof of some good form.
The other games in the Super League will be Tonnerre versus Fovu Baham in Yaounde, while defending title holders Coton Sport Garoua play hosts to Sable Batie. Sable are coming out from a shock elimination from the Cup of Cameroon by division two side Impôt FC Yaounde and will hopefully want to put that behind them.
However, they will be facing a highly motivated Coton Sport who established the record of being the only club that finish the first round without conceding a defeat.
FECAFOOT secretary general, JR Atangana Mballa has said FECAFOOT will keep its promise of offering the clubs in the Super League more money than those in the national League. Certainly the clubs will have their dues before they take on the pitch on Sunday.
In the less remunerative league – the National League – strugglers Esperance Guider and PWD Bamenda will play in Guider, while Dang University FC welcome Mount Cameroon Buea in Ngaoundere.
Victoria United (Opopo) Limbe and Botafogo AFC Buea open the second phase at home against Unisport Bafang and Kadji Sports Academy Douala, respectively.
The second phase, just like the first one will run on a home and away basis, at the end of which the champions and vice will come from the Super League, while the last two clubs in the National League will be relegated to division two to join Cintra and Renaissance Ngoumou who dropped after the first phase.
