South Africa 2010 : Lions Resume Duty Today

They begin training in Yaounde for the match against Togo next October 10.

After over a month’s recess, players of the national football team resume training today in Yaounde ahead of the encounter against Togo next Saturday, October 10, 2009. The match counts for the last but one day of play of the qualifiers for the 2010 world Cup in South Africa. Team coach, Paul Le Guen maintained confidence in the same squad that took part in the victories against Gabon.

In a matter of four days, Cameroon changed their fate in the competition moving from the bottom of the table top group A with seven points. Cameroon will therefore be trying to consolidate their chances of making it to the world Cup by going for outright victory against Togo. Victory against Togo will consolidate Cameroon’s lead in the group given that they are closely followed by Gabon with six points.

The Indomitable Lions, who have taken up residence at the Hilton hotel in Yaounde, will have two training sessions today; one in the morning which will be open to the press for 15 minutes and the other in the afternoon open to the press and public. Tomorrow, the training in the morning will again be open to the press in the morning for 15 minutes but in the afternoon it will closed to both the public and the press. On Thursday, there will be a 30-minute press briefing at the Hilton hotel. The pre-match press conference e will take place on Friday at 5.30pm.

The Lions will have no minute of respite given that they will have to leave for Portugal on Tuesday October 13, where they have to play a friendly against Angola on October 14.

Meanwhile, Puma has released the new jersey for the lions which they will have to use for the next two years. Cameroonians will have the opportunity to see this new outfit during the match against Togo at Mfandena in Yaounde.
