Premiership League: Two Cameroonians Change Clubs

Geremi Njitap moved to Newcastle, while Rudolph Douala Mbella left for St. Etienne.

With only a few weeks to the end of the transfer season in Europe, two Cameroonian players have so far changed clubs in the English championship. The biggest transfer is that of Geremi Sorele Njitap, who moves to another English side-Newcastle after playing the second fiddle in Chelsea. The polyvalent midfielder moves to the Magpies on a transfer fee of one billion, nine hundred millions franc CFA. Newcastle is the third English club Njitap will be offering his service to after Middlesbrough on loan. While Njitap is staying in England, Rudolph Douala Mbella has decided to leave Portsmouth for St. Etienne in France. The Cameroonian who failed to grab a permanent place in the starting line-up of the English club is making a U-turn to where his international career started.

Another Cameroonian player on the departure list is, Eric Njemba Njemba, who has been experiencing dwindling fortune in the English championship. By press time, tripartite talks between Lille football club of France, his agent and Aston Villa, were in an advanced stage. It should be noted that after his highly publicised transfer to Manchester United, the youngster failed to convince the "Red’s" coach Sir Alex Ferguson. Consequently he was put on the transfer market and Aston Villa came looking for him. At Aston Villa, he also failed to impress and was immediately loaned to first Division side Burnley where he spent the last four months.

Apart from these three cases, the status quo is maintained in the other clubs. Lareano Bisan-Etame Mayer, who recently quit Arsenal to join Portsmouth, is looking forward to his first full season with the club. Like wise Song Alexandre Bilong, who left Arsenal for Charlton F C. André Bikey, who was loaned by Lokomotiv FC of Russia to Reading F.C, is looking forward to making his stay at the club permanent. While little know Vincent Pericard who has turned-down several national calls will still render service for the forty-four-year-old English first Division club, Stoke FC. Same situation for Benoit Assou Ekotto and Frank Songo’o who ply their talents for Tottenham F.C.

Doumbe Perrier, who played for Celtic of Glasgow in Scotland, has come to the end of his contract and therefore ready to accept any transfer offers. The player is said to be eying the English league this time after his passage in France. There is another Cameroonian, Mathias Doumbe, who plays professional football in England. The Cameroonian-born French player, started his career in Paris Saint Germain, and then moved to the Hibernian in the Scottish premiership and then, Plymouth. Though Everton showed interest in Doumbe’s talent during the January transfer window, the player has decided to play on with Plymouth.
