World Cup preview
A surprise score could be hanging in the air as Libya host Cameroon in a 2006 World Cup group qualifying game.
Buoyed by their opening group match in the Ivory Coast, the determined Libyans take on an Indomitable Lions side missing key players and facing a series of administrative problems.
Although they lost 2-0 to the Elephants in Abidjan, they almost caused an upset as the Ivorians could only score against the run of play.
That the Libyans returned home conceding only two goals was a surprise in itself, as the talented Ivorian side is seen by many as having a great chance to qualify for their first World Cup.
Their Cameroonian opponents could exhibit less than sterling form in the face of many obstacles.
German coach Winfried Schaefer revealed in a newspaper interview before his team`s departure to Libya that he has not been paid his salary for the last six months.
Also, three important players - Eric Djemba-Djemba, Marcus Mokake and Mohammadou Idrissou, will be missing for various reasons.
Officially Djemba-Djemba has a muscle injury, sustained whilst playing a gala match on 7 June to celebrate the selection of Samuel Eto`o Fils as the African Footballer of the Year.
El Taib could be a vital player for Libya
But it has been speculated that he has been dropped due to lack of form and replaced by Guy Armand Feutchine.
Germany-based Idrissou was left out as a result of an age dispute being investigated by Fifa.
The four-time African champions came from behind to beat Benin 2-1 in their opening group game in Yaounde, sending a clear message that if they are to qualify for a fifth consecutive World Cup, the road could be a very rough one.
Friday`s encounter will be the third time Cameroon face Libya in an official game.
The first game was played in 1982, when both sides drew 0-0 in a group game at the Cup of Nations tournament hosted by the North African country.
In 2000, a Patrick Mboma hat-trick sank Libya in Tripoli in a 2002 World Cup qualifier.
The return leg in Yaounde ended 1-0 for the Indomitable Lions.
Cameroon are currently third in World Cup qualifying Group Three, behind Egypt and Ivory Coast, who are first and second respectively.
Libya are fifth, ahead of Sudan who play Benin this weekend.
