Foot DI : Eleven Players Fired (16.03.2005)
They have been sacnctioned for signing for more than one club.
Eleven players of the national elite football championship have been fired from the competition this season by the the Cameroon Football ruling body (FECAFOOT). Each of the players received a one-year ban after being found guilty of fraud. Out of the 11 players, eight are first division players while three others are second division players.
Among the first division players is last season’s top scorer, Dorge Rostard Kouemaha. The players were guilty of signing for two clubs for this season ; an attitude which has been decried by FECAFOOT. Kouemaha who plays for relegated Victoria United singed two contracts with Union Douala and Fovu of Baham. Other Division One players on the suspension list include 21-year-old Bernard Ngom Some who is still under contract with Sable Batie. Ngom Some negotiated to play for Union Douala. Aimé Gérard Mangolo and Jean Charles Ndjom were found guilty of signing for Canon Yaounde and Union Douala simultaneously. The other first division players involed in cheating are Martin
Zock à Koung, Olivier Bakang, Alim Hamadama and Raymond Tombe. The three players in the Second Division are Evariste Medego, Blaise Nitcheu and Eric Yosse. They were also sanctioned for the same offense.
This is not the first time players are being sanctioned in the national elite soccer championship for the same offence. Cheating has been a recurrent problem in Cameroonian football. Six players were sanctioned for similar offences in 2004. Sources close to FECAFOOT say the federation has decided to impose the sanctions to ensure that players adhere to the rules.
The computerisation of FECAFOOT’s records, which were handwritten until two years ago, has helped in catching up with the cheats. The fraud was uncovered when FECAFOOT’s secretariat decided to compare the registers from each provincial club at the end of last season. Several players have been known to move between second division clubs without following laid-down rules. The exercise to compare registers from the provincial leagues was aimed at preparing for the national tournament of provincial champions.
