Only 10 of the 23 expected players had arrived Buea by mid day yesterday for the 10-day training.
Head coach, Aboubakar and 10 players of the Junior national football team, are presently in the Buea based Mount Cameroon training facility. they arrived in Buea on July 25. According to the coach, the squad will train for ten days ahead of a clash with the Sudan Junior National team next August 6 in Yaounde. The coach said the entire team is expected to be in camp by Saturday, July 29.
At 10:00am yesterday when we visited, the weather appeared not very conducive for any serious training. The rains have in the past recent days broken lose from the heavens
though with intermittent breaks of mild sunshine, propitious for sporting activities.
It is yet unknown why the choice of Buea for the Junior Lions training this time. In the past, the SONEL School facilities in Ombe, some 12 kilometres away, were solicited for such training. Football lovers in Buea are overjoyed by the presence of the Junior Lions in their vicinity. Joe, a cab driver, expressed the hope that the coaches put a particular accent on penalty kicks. This concern comes at the heels of two major disappointments - the Indomitable Lions non-qualification for the just ended World Cup and the show down with Cote d`Ivoire during the last African Cup of Nations in Cairo.
