The Cameroon international defender has lost his place in the Arsenal side to Emmanuel Eboue, although his cause hasn’t been helped by a knee injury that kept him out of action for nearly a year.
Arsene Wenger has told the 29-year-old he can leave the Emirates Stadium this month, and although a return to Spain has been mooted, Alan Curbishley is
hopingto persuade him to remain in England.
The Hammers boss is eager to bolster his defence as he looks to avoid relegation to the Championship, and he sees Lauren’s experience as a huge asset.
It is believed that the fullback – who can also play in midfield – will pen a six-month contract with the East Londoners, yet a successful bid to beat the drop would trigger an extra season.
