CAN Cadet 2007: Lions in camp Against Central African Republic (11.09.2006)
The training session which began on September 8, will end on September 15 in Akono.
Some 31 players of the under 17 football squad have been called to camp to prepare for the match against the Central African Republic billed for September 16 at the Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium in Yaounde. The match counts for the first leg eliminatory round of the African under 17 cup of nations to take place in Togo next year. All the players are home-based.
The under 17 Lions won the 2003 edition of the continental tournament played in Swaziland with the participation of professional players
like Alexandre Song Billonng, Stephane Mbia and Landry Nguemo who recently joined the ranks of the senior national team and even scored a goal in the match against Rwanda. However in 2004, Cameroon was eliminated prematurely from the competition in the first round.
It is worthy to note that the national football federation has been increasing efforts to promote youth football in the country. Notably through the just ended national youth championship, organised in Yaounde that was won by Colaco of Bafoussam. Thanks to a 69 million grant from the mobile telephone network company, MTN.
