Olympic, Dynamo, Girondins into division two (10.11.2001)
With barely one day left to the end of the 2000 – 2001 national elite football championship in Cameroon, three clubs Olympic Yaounde, Dynamo Douala and Girondins Ngaoundere, have been condemned to play in division two next season.
The decision was made public last week ( November 7, 2001) by the Cameroon football federation (FECAFOOT) following a meeting of the homologation and disciplinary committee of the body in Yaounde. A few weeks back, after a decision by the disciplinary committee awarding the encounter pitting Dynamo to Mount Cameroon counting for the 24th day of play to the latter, the authorities of the Douala team opposed the decision and filed a protest claiming that insecurity was one of the reason for their failure to show-up for the encounter in their own player ground (Douala Reunification stadium). A reason rejected by the highest disciplinary body of the federation.
Thus , Dynamo not only loses three points
of the encounter in favour of Mount Cameroon for failing to honour the encounter on their home ground, but would have to pay the sum of 50.000frs CFA. This same sanctions which also apply on Olympic of Mvolye, absent on the 29th playing against the same Mount Cameroon FC in Buea was turned down by the Mvolye club authorities who have also filed a protest.
While waiting for the final decision to be made public during the next meeting of the homologation and disciplinary committee before the 30th and last day of pay is scheduled, closed members of the federation say they do believed any decision would differ from the early one.
It is therefore time, for the Mvolye club, placed 14th with 27 points to start bidding bye from the elite championship that it ascended controversially after three fruitless attempts at the national round robin tournament despite having some of the best players Cameroon could boast of in the early nineties.
