China offer Nigeria training facilities ahead World Cup (27.10.2001)
LAGOS,
"We have received a proposal from China through the Foreign Affairs Ministry for us to train there free of any costs before the World Cup.
"It is something we will really look at seriously," said Victor Iroele, the press secretary to the Nigerian Sports Minister.
Also according to Iroele, Nigeria will play a friendly match against China who will make their World Cup debut after qualifying last week for the finals.
Officials added that Nigeria are favourably disposed to training
in China because of its proximity to the World Cup venues in South Korea and Japan.
Coach Shaibu Amodu told AFP that the country`s World Cup preparations will commence six weeks before the championship kicks off in May.
Nigeria`s `Super Eagles` are one of five African teams who have qualified for the World Cup to be staged in Asia for the first time.
The Eagles reached the second round of the championship on the previous two occasions they have featured at the finals, in 1994 and 1998.
