The women’s football season has ended with Canon Yaounde winning the trophy by beating Amazone Yaounde 3-1 in the final played on Saturday 13 December.
Canon exhibited their intention to carry the day from the first minute of the game, when striker Seraphine Mbida obtained the curtain raiser with a powerful shoot near the left corner.
All appeared finished for Amazone who are only seven months old as Canon played kept the ball completely in their own half.
Carole Dieufo must have been the Achilles’ heel of Amazones. She was substituted only after ten minutes by Cecile Mekongo alias Bebeto. And Mekongo made the difference in the 25th minute when her grounder beat goalkeeper and captain for Canon Nguiadem for the equaliser.
But Canon were quick to react as Louise Bite’e shot them into the lead once more a minute later. Defender Benedicte Ndiang was expelled with a red for insulting referee Akono Eugenie to protest against Canon’s goal. Amazones players argued that Bite’e scored from an off side position.

Just as in the second half, the huge efforts of Amazones’ skipper Mbah Atanagana and Bebeto did not pay off. Marie Mbida and Manie remained solid at the defence for Canon as the fans enjoyed the game.
Ten minutes after resumption, Ngono Mani’s 25 metres free kick totally shattered Amazones hopes of catching up. It beat goalkeeper Christelle Nguetey, whose sole defect was her height, for Canon’s third and last goal.
It was sweet revenge for Canon who lost to Amazones during the championship. After losing at the final two years ago, Canon now succeed Magic FC Bafoussam who could not even make it to the 8th finals this season.
For Mme Mouteng, chairlady of the Women’s football commission at FECAFOOT, it was a great season as they were able to organise both the championship and the cup competitions, unlike the previous years when both competitions could not come through smoothly.
She says they are looking forward to having more money from FECAFOOT in order to better the organisation of competitions and involve more women in football next year.
