COPENHAGEN,
Italy`s Parma outclassed Danish side Brondby in the UEFA Cup on Thursday, winning a one-sided third round, second-leg match 3-0 to seal a 4-1 aggregate triumph.
Brondby made a bright start, but quickly ran out of steam against more imaginative opponents, who shrugged off their recent lacklustre form in Serie A to sweep into the fourth round.
After 43 minutes Patrick Mboma caught the Danish defence off guard, breaking clear from a cluster of players to ram the ball past Brondby goalkeeper Mogens Krogh.
Parma completely dominated after the interval, Hidetoshi Nakata beating Krogh
with an angled shot 12 minutes into the second half and Sabri Lamouchi lobbing the ball into the net following an 82nd-minute free-kick.
``It was a tough match but Parma deserved to win,`` the Italian club`s Argentine coach Daniel Passarella said. ``It was an important win because we are not going through a very good period at the moment.``
Parma lost 3-2 to Udinese on Sunday to slump to 15th in the 18-team Italian first division.
``We played a good first half but we used up a lot of strength keeping Parma away from our goal,`` Brondby coach Aage Hareide said. ``We lost because of our own mistakes.``
