The Cameroon football federation, Fecafoot, has written to Fifa seeking permission to have the number 17 shirt withdrawn in honour of Marc-Vivien Foe.
The Cameroon midfielder collapsed and died on the pitch while playing for Cameroon in a Confederations Cup match in Lyon in late June.
Fecafoot president Iya Mohamed told the BBC Sport website that they have already written to football´s world governing authority concerning the matter.

"We have already written to Fifa concerning this issue," confirmed Fecafoot president Iya Mohamed.
He said: "What we´re waiting for now is for Fifa to send us a written accord before 13 August, when the Cadet World Cup begins. Number 17 shall be withdrawn from all categories of Cameroon national teams."
Mohamed also confirmed that Fecafoot are in the process of organising a number of international friendly matches in memory of Foe.
