Cameroon coach Winfried Schafer has hinted that Patrick Mboma could be fit for the opening match against Ireland on 1 June.
Mboma is Cameroon`s leading striker and has responded positively to treatment. He is said to be happy with his progress.
There were doubts over Mboma`s inclusion after a spell of injuries, but his performance in their friendly match against England suggests he is close to regaining full fitness.
Schafer said Mboma has
been given additional training and treatment from the team doctor to speed up his recovery.
"His condition has stabilized and I hope that he will play against Ireland," Schafer said.
Before his recent mishap, Mboma has suffered two injuries earlier this year.
He picked up the first one just before the semi-final match against Mali in the African Nations Cup and a subsequent ankle injury while playing for his English Premiership club Sunderland.
