African Nations Cup stars El Hadji Diouf and Patrick Mboma were both on target in France and England this weekend.
Diouf, who missed a penalty in the final of the African Nations Cup last month, saved Racing Club of Lens` scalp by converting a last-gasp spot-kick as the French league leaders rescued a 2-2 draw with relegation-threatened Metz.
Cameroon`s second-string national goalkeeper Jacques Songo`o had an outstanding game with a series of superb saves, but he could do nothing as Diouf exacted personal Nations Cup vengeance with the equaliser in the 87th minute. But
Songo`s consolation was the fact that across the channel, his compatriot Patrick Mboma made an impression in his full debut for Sunderland, crashing home a goal in the 2-1 defeat of Tottenham Hotspur.
Mboma`s goal lifted coach Peter Reid`s morale, with the manager predicting Mboma could form a potent partnership with England international Kevin Philips. Reid said: "I think they have a lot of goals in them, if we can work out a system to take the ball to them quickly up front."
Mboma scored three goals at the Nations Cup before injury sidelined him for the last two games.
