Commission Created to Prepare for 2010 Nations/World Cup (03.03.2008)
The six-man commission created by Fecafoot is headed by Roving Ambassador, Roger Milla.
The president of the Cameroon Football Federation, Iya Mohammed has created a commission charged with making proposals on the optimal technical preparation of the national football team for the Africa Cup of Nations to take place in Angola and the World Cup in South Africa in 2010. The proposals will cover the period ranging from the qualification matches for the nation’s and world cup as well as the final rounds of both competitions.
The six-man commission headed by Cameroon’s Roving Ambassador, Roger Albert Milla, has a fortnight within which to submit their report. The other members of the commission include the former coach of the Indomitable Lions, Jules Frederic Nyongha, the coach of the national Olympic football team, Martin Ndtoungou Mpile, the technical director of the Kadji sports academy in Douala, Michel Kaham, the head of the technical development department at FECAFOOT, Dominique Wansi and
the FIFA officer for Cameroon, Jean Manga Onguene.
Information filtering out from the commission says some members are considering the appointment of a new national team coach, for which Fecafoot is prepared to foot the bills. Others suggest the creation of a college of local football trainers around the present coach, Otto Pfister. The Minister of Sports and Physical Education, declared after the failure of the Lions at the finals of the last African Cup of Nations in Ghana that Otto Pfister had fulfilled his contract and that he has no plans of separating with the German-born coach. They are also taking into consideration the fact that Otto Pfister already received a six-month advance salary and it would not be normal to let him go away with the money without working. Officials at the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education are said to be jittery about the work of the Roger Milla Commission. “Let’s keep our fingers crossed and see what comes out of it”, said a senior official who opted for anonymity.
