The Nigerian professional league will kick off on December 8, the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) announced Tuesday.
Officials told AFP the new season would not begin on October 27 as originally planned so that the NFA could conclude negotiations with new sponsors for the championship.
Enyimba of Aba are the
defending league champions and will represent the country in next year`s African Champions Cup.
Meanwhile, the NFA has said a one-year ban will be imposed on any league venue where there is crowd violence.
Security at league grounds have also been tightened following several cases of hooliganism last season.
