The Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) has withdraw N° 17 from all categories of Cameroon national teams in honour of Marc-Vivien Foe. A written document from FIFA is expected to render official this wish before the start of the 10th FIFA U-17 World Championship tomorrow. But already, N° 17 does not future in the line up of Cameroon for the tournament.
FECAFOOT president, Iya Mohamed, says they have already written to the world football governing authority, FIFA, on the matter. "We have already written to FIFA concerning
thisissue. What we´re waiting for now is for FIFA to send us a written accord before 13 August, when the Cadet World Cup begins. Number 17 shall be withdrawn from all categories of Cameroon national teams." he said. Iya Mohamed also confirmed that FECAFOOT is in the process of organising a number of international friendly matches in memory of Foe.
The Cameroon midfielder, Marc Vivien Foe collapsed and died on the pitch while playing for Cameroon during a semi-final match at the Confederations Cup tournament in Lyon last June.
