Tchato gets Birmingham trial (27.12.2002)
Cameroon star Bill Tchato is having a trial with English Premiership side Birmingham City.
The defender has been targeted by Birmingham boss Steve Bruce to solve his side`s left-back problem.
Bruce told the club`s official website: "Bill is with us for a few days and we will have a good look at him.
"He will train with us but he is not allowed to play in any competitive games or for the reserves."
Tchato currently plays for French side Montpellier, who would be prepared to sell as they are in financial difficulties.
Tchato played for
Cameroon in the Nations` Cup and the World Cup.
He played for several second division clubs in France, including Caen, Valence and Nice, before jumping up a division to Montpellier.
If Birmingham do sign him, Tchato will add to a burgeoning African contingent at the club.
Senegal international Ferdinand Coly joined his compatriot Aliou Cisse and Ivorian Olivier Tebily at St Andrews last week.
However, Tchato was not Bruce`s first choice to come into his side at left-back.
Paris Saint Germain`s Didier Domi could not agree terms with the Premiership side.
