Provincial leagues set to produce champions (27.08.2002)

At least five provinces have reached the last stages of their second division championships and will soon announce their representatives to this year’s national promotion tournament, Interpools’ 2002.
Leading is the South West league which already has its representatives. But a final is still to be played between Prisons Buea and Botafogo FC Buea to know who takes first or second position.
In their last games Prisons edged Lakers FC Kumba 2-1 on aggregate, while Botafogo came through by a FECAFOOT decision against Tiko United. Their first leg game ended one all, while the return leg was played twice because it first finished on a virgin tie when darkness set in. When the game was taken all over violence spoiled it and the provincial FECAFOOT homologated the game in favour of Botafogo.
However, the national homologation commission has to take a decision on an appeal made by Tiko United.
The North West league is in its quarter-finals stage. First leg quarter-finals game recorded the following results: PWD Bamenda beat Young Tikari Ndop 3-0, Grassland Warriors Bali had a one all draw with Mt. Kilum Oku and Menchum Eagles pounded Mt. Ndurum Nseh 3-0. the North West will send only one team to Interpools’
2002.<br /> In the West province, the eights teams qualified for the last round have been announced. Aigle Dschang, Olympic Bangangte, Achang FC Dschang, Lumierre Banka, Federal Noun, Jupiter Bafoussam, Bawog Nde and Lac Baleng. Four of these clubs reached this stage of the competition last year.
The knock out last round will start on 8 September and the provincial president Serge Alain Tsemo has guaranteed a smooth event. The West province will send two clubs to the national event.
The six clubs in the Adamawa league have just resumed the second phase of the championship. Olympic Ngaoundere, Ngaoundere University, Girondins Ngaoundere, Jeunesse Star, Stade Maiganga and Espoir Ngaoundal are vying for a place in the Interpools. Olympic topped the first round with 13 points.
In the Littoral province, the knock out matches have been held back by a national FECAFOOT homologation commission’s decision banning the game between AS Moungo Nkongsamba and Dynamo FC Douala. The commission says AS Moungo have unfinished business with Maritime FC.
However, other first leg quarter-finals matches have been played. KSA Douala drew one all with Caiman Douala, while PMUC Douala edged Pouma FC 2-1. Jeunesse Bonamousoudi and Authentic FC are still to play.
