Lions Exhibit Talents (17.08.2005)
The national football team will today play a friendly encounter against F C Villemomble 93.
The four day training camp for the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon ahead of their crucial 2006 World Cup/African Cup of Nations qualifier against Côte d’Ivoire on September 4 in Abidjan rounds up today with a friendly match against F C Villemomble 93. Captain Song and his mates, who have been training seriously within the past three days, will be given the opportunity to put into practice the new skills and tactics acquired in Lisses.
But, the worry of most Cameroonians is that F C Villemomble 93 is an unknown entity in the world of football; making them an unfair match for the Lions. "It would be difficult to actually know the level of the team because a national team is bound to beat a squad in Division 4 of the French football league", Samba Jones, a Cameroonian resident in Lisses said.
Most Cameroonians share this point of view. They would certainly have loved to see their darling national football team play a big friendly match with a strong team; just like Côte
d’Ivoire who will be facing France today. But, head coach, Artur Jorge, says his choice is well motivated. It is not because he could not get a renown team for a friendly that he settled on a Division 4 team. It is a well calculated option. "The problem is that we usually have several options for a friendly match. In effect, a friendly match is not very important. The essential is for the team to train seriously everyday and play against a team; any team. I used the strategy before and it worked. I think we should all be proud of the results that we have been obtaining of recent. Presently, all the players are in top form, they are all optimistic and that is what is important", Artur Jorge said.
During today’s encounter in Villemomble, the 24 players who actively took part in the training camp will be divided into two teams. Each team will play one half of the match. It will thus offer the coach a possibility to evaluate the performance of each player. This wouldn’t have been the case if Cameroon were to play a strong friendly encounter. The match begins at noon, that is 11:00 a.m. in Cameroon.
