Athletics Federation Sign Contract with Puma (01.08.2007)
The information was disclosed by the president of the federation in a press conference yesterday.
After the Cameroon football federation, the Cameroon athletics federation is the second federation in Cameroon to sign a contract with the sports equipment company, Puma. Henceforth, Cameroon’s athletes involved in international competitions will be dressed by Puma. This follows an agreement signed between the Cameroon Athletics federation and the Puma Company recently. Presenting the kits to the press at the headquarters of the federation in Yaounde, the president of the athletics federation, Ange Duala Sama said the contract to last until 2008, is the fruit of negotiations initiated with Puma since 2005 with the support of the president of the Cameroon Olympic Committee, Col. Kalkaba Malboum. It was as such that some athletes were able to use samples of the Puma outfit during the Mount Cameroon race in 2007.
The equipment bearing the national colours; green red and yellow, consist of running outfits for men and women, jogging suits, T-shirts and fez caps. To avoid
mismanagement of the equipment, the president said he had asked Puma to only send the equipment directly to the venue of the event so that only athletes taking part in the games and technical staff have the equipment. The design of the outfit, he said will change will every competition.
Though contract doesn’t involve any financial transaction between the federation and Puma, Puma offered to provide logistic support to Cameroonian athletes to train in Germany before the All African Games in Algeria but since the federation didn’t have money to send the athletes to Germany, this never came to be. Cameroonian athletes however used Puma outfits in the Algerian games and will be using them again during the upcoming junior African championship and the world championships in Osaka.
The president of the athletics federation said the support from Puma is a great booster saying Cameroon athletes will henceforth do everything possible to be on the podium during international competitions not only for the glory of the nation but also to give great visibility to the Puma mark.
